2005 No6 Shiraz Cabernet

Winemaker’s comments

Deep red/plum in colour with crimson hues. Aromas of lifted spice, gentle black pepper and hints of leather and mint are entwined with plum and dark red fruits.

Juicy, sweet dark berry/blackcurrant fruit flavours lead to plush, soft tannins ensuring considerable length and richness.

Full bodied yet mellow, this is a wine to be enjoyed over the next 5 - 8 years.

"Deep intense red colour to rim. Plenty of black cherry, berry and currant
varietal fruit notes on the nose, with some dusty menthol and mocha
characters. Earthy and spicy in the mouth, quite broad and rich,
the fruit is lavish and the tannins soft. The Cabernet picks up
the finish and gives a long elegant ride."

Blended from 12 individual estate plantings, this wine is composed of 755 Shiraz and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, spending 14 months in 1-4 year old French and American barriques. Very deep garnet coloured with a hint of brick
on the rim, it presents an expressive nose with notes of spearmint, warm blackcurrant, creme de cassis, dried cherry and hints of smoky bacon and some graphite. Crisp, rich, full and structured, this wine gives firm gritty tannins and a long minty finish. Nicely mature, cellar for another 4-5 years.

Deeply coloured. Sweet nose is spicy, tarry, herby and intense with a hint of mint alongside rich plum and blackberry fruit. The palate is dense, rich and spicy with lovely bold fruit. Quite lush but showing lovely spicy savouriness. Full on but I like it alot
91/100 Jamie Goode October 2010

The Brothers in Arms No. 6 Shiraz/Cabernet from South Australia’s Langhorne Creek is a reasonably priced winner. The numerology designates that this wine was crafted to celebrate the sixth generation of family members that will carry their winery into the 21st century. Although usually upwards of 85 percent Shiraz, a kiss of Cab adds structure and depth to this offering and Syrah’s cinnamon and spice shines through the blackberry, red cherry and peppermint finish.

“Brothers in Arms ‘No.6’ Langhorne Creek Shiraz Cabernet 2005: Good quality wine from first to last sip; sits in the rich part of the spectrum but not sickly. Rich, balanced along the length of its journey. 91 points and well worth $21”
Tony Keys of “The Key Review of Wine” Issue 23, November 2009

“Ripe, juicy and meaty, this sumptuously flavoured, handsomely oaked and ever so approachable red blend has a wild, smoky bouquet with deep aromas of dark plums, berries and cassis, coupled with chocolatey oak and nuances of cloves and cinnamon. Its intense, deeply flavoured palate marries brambly, jube-like flavours of dark plums and mulberries with seasoned toasty vanilla oak, finishing with pleasing length and a note of mineral”.
90 POINTS Jeremy Oliver, “The Australian Wine Annual” 2010

A touch of luscious Metala Cabernet Sauvignon has been added to the flagship Metala Vineyard Shiraz, the result is a premiere claret styled red that has won massive acclaim and can scarce keep up with the demand. "It's dark appearance and church window residue on the side of the glass give it a suitably gothic character!"

Max Crus Grape Expectations October 2009

"Full bodied yet mellow, No6 is an amazing wine upon release, and can be expected to develop under cellar for many years if so desired. A simply sensational Shiraz Cabernet that shows the two seductive hallmarks of Langhorne Creek reds in fine tradition, fragrant with minty aromas and delicious with soft fleshy fruit" Divine on Line 2008

The flavours are of blackberry and leather and there’s a good hit of them too - this is almost syrupy. There are sweet, raisiny, spicy notes and a hint of that burnt sugar character that’s become increasingly popular in big South Australian reds. It’s a good, sweet, strong-flavoured wine that’s just starting to mellow … at a reasonable price.
